Dust storms had made places along the road side miserable to live
Hamirpur, September 23
Traveling on the National Highway 70 between Hamirpur and Awahdevi had become a nightmare for the people of Bamsan area of the district. Notably, the NH-70 was come into existence about 20 years ago during first stint of Prem Kumar Dhumal as Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh from 1998 o 2003. But since then there was least up gradation or maintenance of this NH in the district. Pertinent to mention that the road also crossed through the native village of former CM Prem Kumar Dhumal but unfortunately, it was in the bad condition from last many years.
The surface of the NH was in very bad conditions near villages Thana Darogan, Tauni Devi, Bari Mandir, Patnaun and Sameerpur. Kuldeep Kumar a resident of village Thana Darogan said that the road was not only badly broken but was it was as narrow as two cars could not cross here. He said that the people were forced to live in dust storms here.
Another villager Vidhya Devi who lived in Bari Mandir said that the pot holes had led to several accidents and two wheeler riders were most affected riders.
It was learnt that the NH authorities had awarded a contract of about Rs. One Crore to do the repair work at badly damaged portions of the road but the contractor had not started the repair work. This was learnt that the contractor was also offered advance mobilisation fund but still people were waiting for the work to start.
Promod Kashyap Executive Engineer of HN division here said that the NH 70 would be repaired soon. He said that the contract to repair the NH was awarded and contractor was directed to start the work at the earliest.
